 Secure Server Connection

The ability to effectively, securely communicate and exchange information among health care providers in a cost-effective way is essential for the wellness, protection and progress of the industry. The .mdEmail® Secure Exchange Connection can facilitate encrypted exchange of PHI, even for those larger entities such as hospitals or clinics that run their own email exchange server. We offer access to connect these types of organizations to our network via a Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection. The VPN connection allows anyone in this setting to send and receive email to and from other .mdEmail® customers, just as other mdEmail® customers do, without any further encryption needed. By integrating into our network via the VPN connection, you can also utilize SendAnywhere technology to send an encrypted email to anyone outside the .md network.

HIPAA clearly states that a system must be in place to handle the secure transmission and storage of all electronic files. Additionally, the HITECH Act of 2009 revised the civil monetary penalty schedule for violations of HIPAA compliance, with new fines ranging from $100 up to $50,000 for each violation. The HITECH act also empowered state attorneys general to enforce HIPAA, which was previously the responsibility of HHS (Department of Health and Human Services) and OIG (Office of Inspector General).
